The rundown

Dressing in layers is key to running comfortably all winter, well-known as the onion technique, opt for thermal tops and tights underneath, then functional running jackets over. Last but not least, top it off with some warm running accessories such as gloves and headbands, and you are doing it right! Start off the run feeling warm and easily shed the layers as your body heats up by simply tucking your gloves and headband in your jacket pockets, then tying unneeded layers around your waist as you go.

Our top tip

When dressing to run in cold weather, the rule of thumb is to add 10 to 20 degrees to the outside temperature to calculate your running temperature. If you are going for a long run, doing an intense workout and get warm easily, add 20 degrees to the outside temp and if you get warm more steadily, then add 10 degrees.
