Shorten your jeans
Are your jeans too long or do you just want to give them a new look? Here’s a fast and simple way to shorten them on your own even if you’re a sewing beginner.
What you need: some chalk, an iron, scissors, and a sewing machine.
1. Put on your jeans and measure how much you’d like to shorten them.
2. Take them off and place them over a steady surface.
3. Draw a line over the hem to your desired length, draw a second one two to three centimeters lower for extra fabric for the hem, and cut it off.
4. Cuff your jeans inwards and iron until you get an even hemline.
5. Slide the cuff around the arm of the sewing machine so you don’t sew it shut. Make sure you hold it straight.
6. Sew over the new hemline. At the beginning and end of the seam, you can set your sewing machine to reverse mode for a couple of centimeters to secure the seam.
