Men's tracksuits for athletic style
Most men have a tracksuit – but might not think of it as a fashionable choice! Don't worry, though; today's tracksuits are very different from those terrible 80s shell suits that your dad used to wear. Whether you opt for classic head-to-toe black, or you go for a colour that makes heads turn, it's easy to find a tracksuit that works for you. Of course, you might just want a sweatsuit to wear to the gym. There's nothing wrong with that – after all, this is one of the most functional types of clothing around. With a bit of careful choice, though, you can get a sweatsuit that works both in the gym and on the street.
Choosing a tracksuit for sports
If you're looking for men's tracksuits for actual sporting purposes, then focus first and foremost on practicality. Pockets are key here, so think about what you want to carry with you: Just your keys, or do you have your phone, wallet, and other items too? If so, you'll need pockets that are big enough to hold them all. Working out in cold weather? That's when you'll want ribbed cuffs on the bottoms of the legs. These will keep you cosy as you work up a sweat. Think about the top half, too. A jumper top is great for cold weather, but a zipped-up jacket is more practical for warmer days as it's easier to put on and take off. Finally, take a look at the neckline. Make sure it's comfortable for you. A high neck is better for warmth, but some men will find it irritating.
How to make a tracksuit work in the street
Athleisure has been big news since the 80s, and men's tracksuits have always been at its heart. If you're wearing a sweatsuit outside the gym, you need to make it look deliberate. Match it with a pair of trainers that are clearly designed for the street rather than the track. Depending on your preference, this could be lightweight, converse-style street shoes, or a bulky, oversized pair of hi-tops. Accessories can work well here, too. A simple chain looks good with a tracksuit, but be careful – don't overdo it, or you could end up looking a bit too much like a rapper from the 80s!
