In 1959, when he needed a striking look on and off the ski slopes, Leonardo couldn't find anything that he wanted to wear, and this forced him to come up with his own brand of clothing. Founded in Perugia, Umbria, Italy, in 1959, the company’s popularity as a producer of skiwear grew through the 1970s. In 1979, the Jet Pant was featured at an event in Paris celebrating Italian design. The company has also been closely associated with tennis. Their logo features the shape of a tennis ball and the tips of a pair of skis. Over the years, ELLESSE has won a reputation for combining the functionality of sportswear with streetwise fashion. It was one of the first sportswear brands to feature their logo on the outside of their apparel.
